“They have turned my signing with TVE into a matter of state with political interests and I was not happy about it”

David Broncano He says he is “shocked” by the “level of twisting and political use that has been made” of his signing with TVE, a move announced by Informalia in February. “It is with a programme that simply changes channels. It has been twisted very strongly and has become an unfair matter of state, media and political interests have been sought and I am not amused,” he protested at a press conference he gave at the FesTVal in Vitoria.

Broncano’s signing also unleashed a spectacular internal war within RTVE and brought down the interim president of the Corporation, Elena Sánchez, and the then director of Contents, José Pablo López, who was the one who promoted his hiring to face Pablo Motos, considered a media scourge of Pedro Sánchez. When asked if he is going to invite Pedro Sánchez to the new EnduranceBroncano has not ruled it out completely and has tried to avoid the question: “I don’t know, not as far as I know. But I would like to interview Mariano Rajoy, now that he is a property registrar.”

Broncano also referred to the controversy over the budget of his programme, 14 million per season (there are two contracted). “I was already rich before because I’ve been presenting for a long time and it pays well,” he commented. “But the programme’s budget is not just for me, that would be nice. I have a lot of money, but not 14 million a year.”

The showman, who ended his employment relationship with Movistar in June, premieres The Revoltthe new name of her program, will air on Monday, September 9 at 9:40 p.m., stealing 20 minutes from Marta Carazo’s Telediario. It is not known who her guest will be on the first day. “My only fear is that Motos will make 75% and we will make 1%”. Regarding his rival, he admitted that he has not yet written to him, but he has assumed that El Hormiguero will emerge victorious from the battle of the access. “They are going to win. Have they made 35% on their return?”, he asked about the overwhelming audience of Antena 3 at that time.

Broncano’s arrival at TVE will force him to make some changes to his programme to adapt it to his new schedule and to a public channel funded with everyone’s money. “I don’t mind being on a public channel because I am very convinced of the usefulness of the public,” he said to the press. “It has been said that we came to take advantage of the public, but I see it the other way around. What we want is to contribute something to the public, not take advantage of it. I am proud to contribute with my work to making public television stronger.”

La Revuelta will try to maintain the essence of the old Resistencia. “The programme remains quite similar to what we have done before. It is a very cool comedy programme that has been a phenomenon,” the presenter recalled. “We will change some things due to the change of channel and time slot, but what we want is for it to be as similar as possible to what we did, because it has been running for 1000 programmes.”

La Revuelta is guaranteed at least one season in prime time, because that is the agreement Broncano reached with RTVE. Afterwards, they can cancel it if it does not reach 7.5%, a cut-off share that is below the average for La 1. In any case, TVE has put the bandage on before the wound for what may happen from next week.

“We don’t come to compete, but to offer something different”said Agus Alonso, RTVE’s Content Delegate. “TVE has to provide variety and diversity. The Anthill “It’s a classic programme, with absolute recognition,” he continued. “We’re not just going to take into account what happens at 10pm on television, which is also important, but we’re going to value other things. If we want a television for the present and the future, we have to bet on content that the public will also see on RTVE Play hours later.”
