The Turin Prosecutor's Office requested on Wednesday nine new sentences for those it considers responsible for the human avalanche which caused the death of two people and more than 1,500 injured in 2017 in the San Carlo square in Turin during the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus.
Among the accused are officials of the Police, the City Council, the Fire Department and the province of Turin, according to the local press, for which the prosecutor requests sentences of between one year and four months, and two years and three months in jail for his responsibility like “pieces of a gear”.
Last January the mayor of Turin, Chiara Appendino, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for such incidents.
The events go back to the night of June 3, 2017, when thousands of Juventus fans gathered in the central San Carlo square in Turin to see on giant screens the final of the Champions League against Real Madrid, which ended with triumph of the Spanish team 4-1.
Around 10:15 p.m. local time, four robbers fired pepper spray to steal jewelry and watches in the square. Scared, the crowd began to flee and a human avalanche which killed two women and injured more than 1,500 people.
The four thieves were sentenced to ten years in prison for first-degree murder. and two weeks ago one failed compensation of 200,000 for a family whose four members were injured by the avalanche.
