LaLiga recently published the salary limits of the First and Second Division clubs and all eyes turned to Barcelona, whose limit fell by more than 200 million to stand at -144 million, a negative limit that contrasts with that of Real Madrid, which already stood at 739 million after the summer market of 2021 and that, after January 2022 , remains at those 739 million. A broad limit, the largest in Spain by far (the second, Sevilla’s, is 199 million), and which gives the white club plenty of room to undertake, if it wants, two big signings this summer: Mbappé and Haaland. Two incorporations that, after the resounding 0-4 of the Clásico at the Bernabéu, in addition to being attainable by resources, seem much more necessary.
Real Madrid’s spending on personnel, according to its budget for the 2021-22 season, is 401.4 million euros. Although this expense includes that of non-sports personnel, which LaLiga excludes when setting salary limits; that amount, in the 2020-21 season, was about 50 million euros. And to those 351.4 million in wages that remain, we must add the amortizations planned for this season, which will mean 177 million euros. All this gives a total amount of 528.4 million euros; that is what Madrid uses this season of its limit.
Thus, with the current salary limit, Madrid has more than 210 million released today, a gap in which the signings of Mbappé and Haaland fit perfectlyespecially considering that the Frenchman will arrive at no transfer cost and the only thing that will have to be amortized in his case will be the signing bonus that the club gives him.
And that’s not all: this summer the contract ends Bale, Marcelo and Isco. Also Modric, but his renewal is confirmed and will be official when the season ends, as happened the previous campaign. Between those three players, Madrid will release another 60 million euros of salary space: Bale earns 30 million gross, Marcelo, 16 and Isco, 14. And that without counting possible desired exits (Jovic, Mariano, Hazard…) that could further reduce the current salary cost of Madrid. Between the current gap and those 60 million, the margin is close to 300 million.
Real Madrid prepares for Mbappé a salary close to 25 million euros net per season, in addition to the transfer bonus; In the case of Haaland, it would not be necessary to go up so much, but it will be necessary to pay a transfer and also several commissions. All those expenses, yes, would be diluted between the seasons that both would sign for Madrid, Initially six years. With these conditions, it only remains to be seen if Madrid will settle for signing only Mbappé or if they will also bet on Haaland in the same summer. Due to salary gap, let it not remain.
