There are no two without three, Baskonia wins again
Spahija’s men chain their third consecutive win in the Euroleague against Alba Berlin
MADRID, 18 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Bitci Baskonia continues to make up its bad European season after achieving this Friday the third consecutive victory against Alba Berlin (85-68), on matchday 30 of the regular phase, after a match played at the Buesa Arena that always controlled the team Basque save the arreón of the Germans in the penultimate assault.
Neven Spahija’s team chained their best streak of the season in Europe this Friday. Three wins in a row that make him expressly leave the bottom of the table and place him in fifteenth position, dignifying his performance in the ‘Old Continent’ and opening the door to a more pleasant ending without neglecting a possible miracle.
The Vitorians soon took command this Friday with several outside actions led by Fontecchio (4/5 from the perimeter), very motivated against his former team- and Giedraitis, who let his hair down and ended up being the game’s top scorer with 22 points. The advantages favorable to the Baskonia soon materialized in the light.
However, Alba found oil in the rival paint and never left the match. From 21-19 to 31-25, but always with the locals in charge, who also had a good version of Marinkovic, also more liberated due to the good results of the team recently. The Germans, with Jaleen Smith ‘plugged in’, continued to do their thing.
The scoreboard tightened again after the break (44-31) the home side took out the fang to give another growth spurt. Even so, the clash repeated the script of the first quarters and the team led by Israel González came within four points (62-58) with the final act still to come. Ten minutes where Baskonia avoided getting out of control.
Spahija’s men relied on good ball circulation to find more comfortable shooting positions and crushed the Berliners with accuracy and efficiency. Giedraitis culminated his scoring party with another three-pointer that was the finishing touch and made a Buesa Arena smile that had deserved it for a long time.
