The Xunta proposes fines of more than 360,000 euros to LaLiga and Fuenlabrada

The Ministry of Health of the Xunta de Galicia has proposed penalties of 360,607.27 euros to LaLiga and CF Fuenlabrada for “very serious infringement” after having traveled to Galicia on July 20, despite the fact that the team had undergone a PCR test hours before – without yet knowing the results – and when there were already four confirmed positive cases that did not travel.

As explained by sources of the Ministry consulted by Europa Press, both LaLiga and FC Fuenlabrada “were aware of the situation and the protocol” of LaLiga “prevents close contacts or likely patients from being testedPrecisely, after subsequent examinations carried out by the Servizo Galego de Saúde (Sergas), there were 18 confirmed positives.

In this sense, the Xunta indicates that a “serious social and health alteration” was appreciated due to the “real risk” of contagion from COVID-19 not only among the team members and the working people but also of possible fans, journalists, hotel guests and anyone else who might have contact with the members of the expedition.

In addition, the Ministry of Health stresses that the outbreak caused “a great social alarm” in the city of A Coruña and caused “cancellations in hotels and restaurants”, “slowing down the reserves for the month of August”. In addition, it has also warned of “possible damages in trade, tourism and services.”

The autonomous department has indicated that both La Liga and CF Fuenlabrada are specialized entities that have sufficient information and means, medical teams and specific protocols to know that his duty “was to provide the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus”.

For all these reasons, the Xunta points out that the offense is “very serious”, its “maximum degree”, and therefore proposes a fine of 360,607.27 euros to LaLiga and the same amount for the Fuenlabrada SAD Club. The file was transferred last Monday to both entities and the Council of the Xunta is the competent body for the imposition of the sanction, while the instruction of the file will be in charge of the Territorial Headquarters of A Coruña.
