MADRID, 20 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The WTA and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia announced this Monday a multi-year partnership with which they hope to “grow women’s professional tennis and inspire more women and girls around the world to play tennis.”
In addition, the Saudi fund will be the first sponsor of the WTA ranking. In February, the PIF already partnered with the ATP to sponsor its circuit classification, and previously reached agreements with the WTA 1,000 and ATP Masters 1,000 in Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid, in addition to the WTA 1,000 and ATP 500 events from Beijing.
This new partnership between the WTA and the PIF comes shortly after it was announced that the WTA Finals will be held in Riyadh for the next three years, starting in 2024.
WTA Ventures CEO Marina Storti was pleased to “welcome PIF as a global partner of the WTA.” “Together, we look forward to sharing the journey of our talented players throughout the season, as we continue to grow the sport, create more tennis fans and inspire more young people to take up the game,” she said.
For his part, PIF corporate brand director Mohamed AlSayyad explained that the Saudi fund hopes to continue being “a catalyst for the growth of women’s sport.” “We look forward to working with the WTA to increase participation and inspire the next generation of talent. Underpinned by PIF’s four pillars of strategic sponsorship, this partnership aligns with our ambition to elevate the game and generate positive growth for the sport in everyone,” he noted.
