The Spanish women’s volleyball team added this Wednesday its first defeat in its qualifying phase for next year’s European Championship by falling clearly against Slovakia 3-0 (27-25, 25-13 and 25-21), a setback with no more impact than the morale of already having the ticket for the continental event.
Spain could not maintain their streak in this Pre-European Championship and were dismantled by the locals, except in a very disputed first set and where they began to dominate before several unforced errors and the Slovak improvement, led by their captain Karin Palgutova, caused it to go to the hosts by 27-25.
The favorable score had a positive effect on Slovakia and a very negative one on the team led by Pascual Saurín, who was soon down on the scoreboard and was unable to prevent them from giving it up without too much resistance (25-13).
Spain failed to find the formula to add more emotion to the game. The Slovaks did not let up and did not give too many options to their rival in the third set, something more disputed (25-17), but not enough and that certified the end of the undefeated ‘Lionesses’ in this qualifying phase. This Sunday, in Alicante, close against Denmark.
