The women’s team thrashes Jamaica in its debut in the Nations Cup

MADRID, 16 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s soccer team began its journey in the Nations Cup that is being played in Australia with victory this Thursday after beating Jamaica 3-0 with solvency in a match that was not too demanding for Jorge Vilda’s team.

The debut in the friendly tournament was positive for the national team, which did not suffer excessively from the long journey and acclimatization to the ten-hour difference with Spain. She soon opened the scoring and from there her theoretical superiority over the number 44 in the FIFA ranking increased.

The coach initially opted for an eleven with some surprises such as Enith Salon’s starting goal, Paula Tomás’s debut with the Absolute on the left side or the pairing of central defenders formed by María Méndez and Ivana Andrés. In the middle, Madrid color with Tere Abelleira, Claudia Zornoza and Maite Oroz, while on top, Esther González, flanked by the speed and overflow of Athenea del Castillo and Marta Cardona.

Spain started well at the Industree Group Stadium in Gosford and prevented the Jamaican team from deploying towards their field. Zornozad warned with a long shot well saved by Becky Spencer and shortly after the Spanish managed to open the scoring. Another shot from the Real Madrid midfielder, this time from inside the area and after another steal from the rival ball, hit the crossbar, but the rebound fell to Oroz who pushed it into the net to put the team ahead selection.

The national team enjoyed two more chances through Esther González and Marta Cardona, and in the final stretch received its only scare from Jamaica in a set piece in which Salon quickly went down to avoid Kayla McKenna’s shot and then Allyson Swaby missed the second shot on target.

When the Jamaicans hoped to arrive with their options alive at half-time, in added time, Spain increased their lead thanks to a great connection between Cardona and González, which the Granada player did not forgive in their one-on-one.

For the second part, Vilda refreshed her offensive front with the entry of Salma Paralluelo, Eva Navarro and Alba Redondo, and also made her debut for Berta Pujadas. The script did not vary too much with respect to the first act and the ‘Red’ once again showed her superiority.

The Atlético de Madrid forward, after a counter attack after another Jamaican loss, had a good option, but fell in the area in her cut on the defense and the referee ordered a penalty, although she later rectified after consulting with one of her assistants considering that the Spanish had dropped.

The young Fiamma Benítez was the protagonist in the second half and had the best options for the team, first with a shot that went a bit across, and then with the 3-0 lead, a great goal. The Valencia soccer player received a pass from Salma Paralluelo in the half moon and with precision and care put the ball in the top corner to close the duel. Spain will play again on Sunday, this time in Sydney, and with a much more demanding match that will measure its current level against the host Australia.
