The Spanish women’s wheelchair basketball team achieved victory on Wednesday in the tournament organized by Japan on the occasion of the anniversary of the Paralympic Games that were held in Tokyo last year by beating the Japanese team 47-60.
According to the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities, the team led by Adrián Yáñez, who last year competed in a Paralympic event for the first time in its history on its own merits, took advantage of this visit to the Japanese country to continue with its preparation for the World Cup in Dubai next November.
Yáñez summoned Almudena Montiel and Virginia Pérez (Amiab Albacete), Sara Revuelta (Ilunion), Beatriz Zudaire, Isabel de Jesús, Lourdes Ortega and Vicky Alonso (UCAM Murcia) and Naiara Rodríguez (Fundación Vital Zuzenak), the latter the the only one that was not last summer in the Japanese capital.
In the duel played at the Ariake Arena, Spain did not start in tune and Japan was able to dominate the first ten minutes, but from then on the reaction of the Spanish came, they were much superior for the rest of the match and that by half-time they already dominated by ten points. The top scorer of the match was Vicky Alonso with 24 points.
In addition, before this match, the Spanish team played two other friendly matches also against Japan in other venues, both resulting in victories by 31-79 and 43-62, and carried out an inclusive wheelchair basketball activity with boys and girls .
