MADRID, 19 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Women’s FC Barcelona swept this Wednesday at the Johan Cruyff with a resounding 9-0 victory over the Portuguese Benfica, in the first day of the Champions League group stage in which the azulgranas presented their candidacy for the continental title and achieved the biggest win of the club’s history.
Undefeated in the new F League and with their captain, Alexia Putellas, as a brand new Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year, the Catalans continue without giving up a point and take the first step to recover their crown lost last year. The culé team thus becomes the first leader of Group D, although with three points there is also a Bayern that beat Rosengard (2-1).
Jonatan Giráldez’s team started the game with great authority and soon brought out their enormous punch. The azulgrana took the lead in the first minute with a goal from Patri, a lead that they later extended with a goal from Aitana and a great goal from Oshoala, who with a shot from outside the area surprised Rute Costa and made it 3-0 on the scoreboard .
Already in the second half Barça did not give Benfica an option either and went over the Portuguese who could do little, or nothing, against the cyclone culé. Mariona made it 4-0 right from the start and was also the author of the assist for Crnogorcevic to head the fifth.
The Combination between Pina, Oshoala and Patri put it on a plate for Geyse to debut his scoring account with 6-0, who wanted to return the favor to his teammate Pina in the seventh goal of the azulgrana. Oshoala and Geyse, with two doubles, put the finishing touch to a game in which the culé team dominated from start to finish.
The azulgrana, who were 90 minutes away from being able to retain their European champion title last May, after losing in the final against Olympique de Lyon (1-3), now face a new assault on the continental title in the one that makes clear their status as favorites.
