The Volta a Catalunya invites 7 teams to its 102nd edition

BARCELONA, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The organization of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, whose 102nd edition will be held from March 20 to 26, has already closed the 25 teams that will take the start with the announcement of its seven invited teams.

Lotto Dstny, Israel-Premier Tech, Burgos-BH, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Equipo Kern Pharma, Euskaltel-Euskadi and Uno-X Pro Cycling Team, all from the second category of professional cycling, join the 18 UCI WorldTeam teams who have their fixed place.

Seven UCI ProTeam teams that the organization of the race has invited and that will take part in the 2023 edition, which will start in Sant Feliu de Guíxols to finish in Barcelona after seven stages and, for the first time, three mountain finishes ( La Molina, Vallter and Lo Port).

As a team that has its presence assured as one of the two best UCI ProTeams in the world ranking will be Lotto Dstny, which has Thomas De Gendt in its ranks, winner of stages in five different editions of the Catalan race.

Also participating in the Volta is someone known for his career as the UCI WorldTeam, Israel-Premier Tech, a team of old acquaintances from the Catalan race such as Chris Froome, Michael Woods or the South African Daryl Impey, stage winner in the 2017 edition.

The Spanish teams will not miss the appointment, such as Burgos-BH (fourth participation in the Volta), Caja Rural-Seguros RGA (it has the Catalans Abel Balderstone, Joel Nicolau and Eduard Prades), Equipo Kern Pharma (third presence and with Roger Adrià, Kiko Galván, Álex Jaime, Jordi López, Martí Márquez and Pau Miquel in their ranks) and Euskaltel-Euskadi.

Finally, the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team will repeat its presence after its participation in the last edition. The Norwegian team made its debut at the last Volta a Catalunya in UCI World Tour stage races, with Tobias Johannessen and Torstein Træen finishing in the top ten of the general classification.

“The 25 participating teams will seek to take over from Colombian Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe), the last winner of the centennial history of the third oldest stage race in the world after the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia,” highlighted the organization.
