Mikel San José showed his criticism of VAR some time ago through his twitter account. The Navarrese footballer, with a past at Athletic and present at Amorebieta, makes his opinion clear regarding the aforementioned invention. From his point of view he has an obvious problem. He also talks about his last experience in England.
Why have you been so critical of VAR?
The VAR is valid, but there are aspects that continue to depend on the referee’s criteria and, as such, things continue to happen. I understand that it can bother you that a town with 20,000 inhabitants is in the Second Division, that a League that moves billions of euros does not come in handy, but if there is a penalty in favor of Amore you have to call it and if there is not in the Amore area you don’t have to whistle. The VAR is to do justice and so far it is not serving for that.
How do you now remember the experience in Birmingham?
Enriching. The club was wonderful, the workers and the team too. It’s a shame to spend a year there and not have been able to play in front of the fans. The family situation was somewhat different. We live a very hard confinement. Although now Boris is going from party to party (he jokes), the rest of us were locked up. The situation of the txikis was hard and we decided to return. Football-wise, he was happy.
