The Valverde stage in Barcelona ends with an expenditure on signings of 758 million

The stage of Ernesto Valverde as coach of the Football Club Barcelona has come to an end after two and a half seasons. The defeat of the Super Cup, together with the unforgivable nights of Rome and Liverpool, have condemned a coach who leaves with four titles behind him: two leagues, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup.

In the economic section, Valverde has coincided with the most wasteful period of Barcelona in terms of signings, with Josep María Bartomeu leading the way. According to data from Transfermarkt, the club culé has spent 758.6 million euros in three seasons – 374.5 in 2017/18, 129.1 in 2018/19 and 255 in 2019/20 -, at an average of 253 million per campaign .

Signings such as Coutinho (145 million euros), Dembélé (125) or Griezmann (120) have added more than half of what was spent during the three seasons. After them, other signings stand out such as De Jong (75), Malcolm (41), Paulinho (40), Lenglet (35.9), Semedo (35.7), Arthur (31) or Net (26).

Of the great European teams, Barcelona is the one that has spent the most in signings in these last three years. After the Blaugranas (758.6 million) are: Juventus (647.6), PSG (595), Manchester City (564), Real Madrid (510) or Liverpool (367.98).

In sales, Barcelona has also added a good amount of millions (522.95) in these three seasons, being 222 of the transfer of Neymar to the PSG, until today the most expensive in the world of football. Other highlights include Malcom (40), Paulinho (40), Cillessen (35), Mina (30.25), Gomes (25), Alcácer (21) or Digne (20.20).

In the balance of transfers and sales, the club culé has negative results of 235.65 million in the Valverde era, behind Manchester City (349.55) and PSG (276.7) and ahead of Juventus (190 , 75), Real Madrid (117.4) or Liverpool (90.78).
