The USA draws with Portugal, goes to the round of 16 as second in the group and moves away from Spain

MADRID, 1 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The US soccer team drew goalless with the Portuguese and advanced as second in Group E towards the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup, which is being held in Australia and New Zealand, thus moving away from the Spanish team for some crosses where Countries will also be Bajos, who thrashed Vietnam 0-7 this Tuesday.

In Auckland’s Eden Park, the US team clearly dominated for a long time and created quite a bit of danger over the goal defended by Ines Pereira. However, she was very close to paying for her lack of aim with elimination, as the Portuguese striker Ana Capeta sent a shot to the post in second half added time.

Despite the push from the ‘Selecção das Quinas’, the American team maintained the 0-0 lead and secured the second position in the group with 5 points. Meanwhile, the Portuguese said goodbye with 4 points and did the Netherlands a favor (7 pts.), which they enjoyed to beat Vietnam (0 pts.) and seal the lead. These results put the US on a path where they could only play Spain in the semifinals.

At the Dunedin Stadium, the ‘Oranje’ early opened the scoring with a formidable chip from Lieke Martens. Katja Snoeijs made it 0-2 in the 11th minute, with a tight left footed shot after a pass from Danielle van de Donk. The third, another great goal, was scored by Esmee Brugts at minute 18 with a shot from outside the area with a ‘folha seca’ that entered the top corner.

Jill Roord extended the Dutch advantage before half an hour into the match, pushing a good pass from Dominique Janssen from the left wing almost at will, and Danielle van de Donk herself did the ‘hand’ just before the break, taking advantage of a rebound in the small Vietnamese area.

Again Brugts, and once again removing the cobwebs from the squad, scored the sixth with a long shot on 57′. And to close the rout, Roord also scored his double with a header during a counter-attack on 83′, with an assist from Stephanie van der Gragt also with a header.
