Hours after closing the list for the US Open, which will not feature Rafa Nadal or Roger Federer in this edition, the United States Tennis Federation (USTA) has announced this Wednesday the game that will go to monetary awards for the players during the next US Open, to be held from August 31 to September 13 in New York.
The organization will allocate 53.4 million dollars (45 million euros) to prizes for players with 7.6 million dollars (6.4 million euros) that will go to the fund of players affected by the suspension of tournaments during the coronavirus pandemic.
This amount represents 5% less than the 57 million that the USTA allocated to prizes in 2019, although the organization highlights that, despite the cuts, the games aimed at the players who are present in the first have been increased by 5% round. Yes the prizes for the champion will be reduced, since both the champions of the male and female cadres will receive three million dollars as a prize instead of the four of last year.
USTA Executive Director Mike Dowse appreciated the award distribution for this edition: “We are proud to be able to offer an award game to players that is maintained at 95% compared to that of 2019. This distribution is the result of a close collaboration between the USTA, the WTA and the ATP and it represents a way of supporting the players and their well-being financed during an unprecedented time. “
