The unknowns of PSG

With two games remaining in the season, PSG remains unsure as to what Qatar is going to do from June. The club has not yet taken a firm step and is still in a period of reflection, waiting, above all, for the notification of Kylian Mbappé’s final decision. Rumors about transfers, a new coach and sports management have increased in recent days, but questions are still haunting Paris right now.

Mbappé, the all or nothing

Without a doubt, PSG’s first concern is knowing what Kylian Mbappé will finally do. The striker was in Madrid this Monday, fueling a wave of rumors regarding his possible signing for Real Madrid, although he only took advantage of the trip to eat with several PSG teammates. Qatar is still confident in renewing him, is willing to change the entire structure of the club to meet his demands and, in addition, offers him a blank check that, in another situation and in another context, would be irrefutable.

The renewal of Mbappé is a matter of state in France. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, continues to pressure the striker to renew and Qatar is focusing all its efforts to make him change his mind. The final decision on Bondy’s talent will not be announced, a priori, until mid-June, the date on which his concentration with the French team ends. The hypothesis of announcing that he is leaving for Real Madrid on May 21, the day on which PSG ends the season at the Parc des Princes, remains a utopia and the player continues to reflect.

No news of Pochettino’s substitute

The only thing that is clear in Paris in May is that Mauricio Pochettino will not continue at PSG next season. The Argentine is sentenced since the premature elimination in the second round of the Champions League and even Athletic Club de Bilbao has already contacted the still coach of the Parisians to succeed Marcelino on the bench in June. The question is, do PSG already have their replacement closed?

Qatar’s priority has been, is and will be Zinedine Zidane. However, the Marseille coach has between eyebrows to take over from Deschamps in the French team once the World Cup in Qatar is over, a situation that, inevitably, takes him away from the PSG bench. The alternatives that the sports management of the Ligue 1 champion has are not very wide. Conte has sounded, which would have been offered two weeks ago, Low and Motta are also in the chamber, but there is nothing concrete right now. PSG continues to work on finding a replacement for Pochettino who can, once and for all, avoid fiascoes like the one that occurred this season at the Bernabéu.

Leonardo, in the spotlight

PSG’s sports management could undergo changes in the summer. Although it is true that Leonardo is currently working on several additions, including Paul Pogba and Ousmane Dembélé, although the latter has approached a renewal with Barcelona in recent weeks, Qatar has already contacted several sports directors in recent months, including Paratici, to take over.

However, the great relationship between Al Khelaïfi and Leonardo is one of the conditions for the Brazilian’s departure. A strong man from Qatar due to his character and his initiative when making decisions, Leonardo has more and more possibilities to continue in Paris. However, it is not ruled out that a new sports director will land who seeks to change the tables in the French capital.

Neymar, Ramos… More unknowns

The last of the many unknowns that PSG has is that of the squad. Players like Di María, Kurzawa, Draxler, Keylor Navas, Icardi or Paredes are on the transfer list of the current Ligue 1 championwhose main objective is to avoid situations like the one in August, in which there were 33 players from the first team, a real anomaly in European football.

Players like Ramos or Neymar are also not guaranteed their presence at PSG next season. The camero, who has already repeated on several occasions that he feels strong enough to face his last year of contract, He could leave after not having met expectations with his signing. He was signed to win the Champions League and the Spanish international has yet to make his debut with his new team in the top continental competition.

Regarding the Brazilian, everything depends on the bidders. PSG will not put any impediment to a sale of the player, but there are few clubs in the world that can assume his wage sheet. Neymar’s salary amounts to €40 million net per season, which is a condition for him to leave the French capital. Intense weeks are ahead in Paris with many unknowns unresolved in what is the most important year of the QSI project since he took over the reins of PSG in 2011.
