The U-17 world champions, honored by the RFEF: “We wanted to win and we knew we were capable”

MADRID, 1 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The players of the Spanish U-17 women’s team were honored this Tuesday by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, in an act in which they confessed that they wanted to “win this World Cup” and knew that they were “capable” of achieving it.

In a crowded Luis Aragonés hall of the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, and in an act presided over by Luis Rubiales, the champions had the opportunity to celebrate their achievement. The main protagonists of the event were the soccer players and the trophy that certifies them as world champions in the category.

In the turn of interventions, the captain of the group, Marina Artero, admitted that they were not yet aware of what had been achieved. A title that came as “a family” and that was set as a goal after losing the European final. “We wanted to win this World Cup and we knew we were capable,” he assured, in tune with Olaya Enrique, who also highlighted the strength of the group: “Being together is what makes us champions and the team that we are,” he said.

After emotionally remembering the footballer Nina Pou, who was unable to attend the World Cup due to injury, it was the turn of the coach, Kenio Gonzalo, who highlighted the RFEF’s commitment to women’s football. “They have believed, bet and invested in women’s football. They are giving us all possible means, and with the work they do and all the staff we have, with that capacity and that human quality, these achievements are achieved,” he said.

“There are 150 teams around the world that want to win, and in the last four years only Spain has achieved it. We have to be aware of the value it has, and that it is the result of all that work that I mentioned,” he stressed, before confessing that this is “the end of a story, the most beautiful end it can have”, since many players will become U-19s.

Finally, the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, assured that this team has made “the Federation, Spanish football and all of Spain happy”. “Almost all federations usually have four or five national teams, we have seven. We also have 18 coaches, we created a women’s soccer department and we spent 25 million on women’s soccer,” said the leader.

“There is no federation in the world that in the last four women’s World Cups has won three and been second in the other. We are the best women’s football training federation in the world. It is thanks to the talent and effort of the families and the clubs and the federations”, settled.
