The trident takes flight

A season and a half later, Zidane finally smiles when he draws his attack on the board. The Frenchman returned to the white bench with the headache of how to replace Cristiano's goals. His idea was based on Benzema and Asensio taking a step forward and Hazard assuming the star stripes. However, injuries meant that only the part of Benzema's goal increase was fulfilled.

Until this month of January 2021 Zizou it has not managed to count all three at 100% at the same time continuously. In fact, the first game in which his favorite trident coincided in the starting lineup was this season, on October 31 against Huesca (4-1). In total, they have started together in five games and the numbers prove Zidane right, because Madrid multiplies its offensive resources: 12 goals in favor (an average of 2.4). In the other 22 duels this season, one of the three was absent from the eleven and the team reduced its effectiveness: 33 goals (1.5 per shock). In short: Madrid averages almost one more goal per game when Hazard, Benzema and Asensio start at the same time.

The coach's intention is for them to consolidate, because they have started three of the last four games (Osasuna, Athletic and Alavés). Only against Alcoyano, where there were massive rotations, were they substitutes. This season between the three they add 19 goals, 44.2% of Madrid's total, although 15 of them have been from Benzema (Hazard has three and Asensio one). Now that the Belgian is healthy and the Spaniard has returned to his best level, Zizou expect those numbers to rise.
