The Territoriales ask Rubiales to resign “immediately”

MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Commission of Presidents of Autonomous and Territorial Federations of the RFEF has asked Luis Rubiales to present his resignation “immediately” as president of said body, after kissing the international Jenni Hermoso in the celebration of the World Cup played in Australia and New Zealand.

“After the latest events and the unacceptable behaviors that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the presidents request that Mr. Luis Rubiales immediately present his resignation as president of the RFEF,” they indicated in a statement after the meeting held this Monday at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas.

Likewise, the Territorials have urged the acting president of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha, to immediately withdraw the last communication on behalf of the federation with FIFA and UEFA that they have known this Monday and have given him their unanimous support to lead a new stage “where dialogue and reconciliation with all football institutions is the line to follow”.

Said communication would refer to the appeal for an alleged interference by the Government in the ‘Rubiales case’, although the president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), Víctor Francos, indicated this Monday that UEFA “had not” received said demand that could put at risk the participation of the selection in international competitions.

The territorial congratulated “effusively” the women’s soccer team for its victory in the World Cup, and valued the meaning and legacy of success for Spanish sport. “We express our admiration and gratitude to an unrepeatable group of players and we extend our congratulations to all those who have built, over the years with determination, the growth of women’s football,” they said.

They also announced their intention to urge the corresponding bodies for a “deep” and “imminent organizational restructuring” in strategic positions in the federation to make way for a “new stage of management” in Spanish football.

Following FIFA’s suspension of Luis Rubiales, the federation’s internal protocols have been activated, and they expressed their commitment to continue implementing their investment, as well as equality policies for the development of women’s football.

On the other hand, they made themselves available to the Higher Sports Council and all the institutions involved to “continue building” together the candidacy for the 2030 World Cup. Víctor Francos declared himself “concerned” this Monday because, according to him, two weeks ago Spain was “better placed” to organize it.
