The WTA announced on Monday that the city of Guadalajara (Mexico) will host the teachers' tournament, which brings together the eight best tennis players of the year and was scheduled in Shenzhen (China).
The tournament, which cannot be disputed in China due to the situation of the pandemic and the cancellation of the Asian tour, will be played again in Shenzhen from 2022 to 2030. This will be the second tournament to be played this year in Guadalajara, after the WTA 250 in March won by the Spanish Sara Sorribes.
At the moment, Ashleigh Barty leads the classification that gives access to the tournament, called 'Race to Shenzhen', followed by Aryna Sabalenka, Barbora Krejcikova, Karolina Pliskova, Iga Swiatek, Maria Sakkari, Naomi Osaka and the Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza.
Guadalajara will host both the individual and the doubles event and the exact dates will be announced in the coming days at a press conference in the Mexican city.
