The Swiss Odermatt prevails in the giant and adds his second gold in the World Ski Championships

MADRID, 17 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Swiss skier Marco Odermatt won his second gold medal this Friday at the Alpine Ski World Championships that are taking place in Courchevel Méribel (France) by winning the giant test.

Odermatt, already relegation champion, was the favorite to take the title in this discipline, although he had to work hard in the second set after making a mistake in the first, which did not prevent him from finishing with the second fastest time, but more of half a second from the Austrian Marco Schwarz.

However, the reigning leader and World Cup champion benefited from Schwarz’s mistakes on the second run that saw him lose not only gold but also silver. The Austrian could only be the eighteenth best time and saw how Odermatt was left with the first drawer of the podium despite being fifth.

The Swiss signed a total time of 2:34.08 to win the title with 32 hundredths of an advantage over his compatriot Loic Meillar, fourth in the first descent and who beat Schwarz by eight, while the Slovenian Zan Krajec, who had been third in the initial sleeve, he was also unable to defend his position.

As for the two Spanish skiers who participated, the Catalan Albert Ortega and the Basque Aingeru Garay, rookie in a World Cup, they were able to finish this giant and signed the twenty-third and twenty-ninth position, respectively.
