The Super League is already a reality in Africa

The failure of Superliga in Europe it has not been repeated in Africa and, starting next season, the African continent will have its Superliga. This was announced this Sunday by the president of the African Confederation, Patrice Motsepeafter the executive committee held in Rabat (Morocco).

The president refused to give details about the composition of the new Superligabut said it would not replace the current one African Champions League. Even so, all the details will be known on August 10, since there will be an official launch at the Congress of the CAF de Arusha (Tanzania).

The proposal for the African Super League first came from the president of the FIFA, Gianni Infantino, who insisted it would attract more sponsors to African football, while expanding revenue from television rights. An idea that, unlike what happened in Europe last year, has not raised controversy in Africa.

On the other hand, the president of the CAFalso announced a change in the dates of the next African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. The competition was initially scheduled for June 2023 and will finally be played in January 2024. “We don’t want to run the risk of having a competition under a deluge. It wouldn’t be good for African football and its image,” he explained. Motsepe.
