“The Super League has not failed”

Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus, assured today, in his appearance at the football summit organized by the Financial Times in London. that the Super League has not failed and that European football still needs reform.

The Italian leader, who was president of the European Club Association until the launch of the Super League, took the stage hours after Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA, and Javier Tebas, president of the League, attacked the Super League project. Of UEFA, he assured that it is a “regulatory, monopolistic and guardian” body and that “he was fully aware that I was working on it.”

“Thebes? His words speak for themselves”

“European football needs a reform,” said Agnelli. “I am not going to answer any questions about Tebas, because his words speak for themselves,” he added after Tebas said Super League clubs “lie more than Vladimir Putin.”

Asked why the Super League failed, Agnelli was clear: “It has not failed.” And he clarified that “it is a collective work of 12 teams, not just one person. Twelve clubs signed a 120-page agreement and it is still binding for eleven.”

Agnelli did not mention which club has officially withdrawn from the project. Only Real Madrid, Barça and Juventus itself continue to support him publicly, while Atlético, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Inter and Milan stood out, after initially supporting him, due to the strong opposition generated by his announcement in April 2021.
