The Spanish U-21 field hockey team wins bronze at the Malaysia World Cup

MADRID, 16 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men's U-21 field hockey team has won the bronze medal in the category's World Cup, which is being held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), after beating India in the duel for third place (1-3 ).

Uri Torras' men, who already beat the Indian team in the group stage (4-1), thus achieved the second bronze in the history of the U-21 team, after the one they achieved at the World Championship in Rotterdam in 2005 , against the same rival.

Both teams had a goalless first quarter and a lot of exchange of possessions, but without clear arrivals to opposing areas. Nico Álvarez opened the scoring for the Spanish in the 25th minute, but three minutes later the Indians hunted down a loose ball inside the area to tie the game (1-1).

After the break, the 'RedSticks' began to dominate and, in the 40th minute, Petchamé picked up a ball inside the Indian area and, upon turning, made a push that skimmed the post of the goal (1-2) . With nine minutes left, a great individual play by Pol Cabré on the left wing, which a Korean threw into the area, was taken advantage of by the 'killer' Nicolás Álvarez to make it 1-3.
