The Spanish relays are left out of the World Cup finals but retain their Olympic options

MADRID, 5 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The five Spanish teams participating this weekend in the World Relay Championships, which are being held in Nassau, capital of the Bahamas, were left out of their respective finals this Saturday, but still maintain their chances of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 this Sunday.

In the tartan of the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium, the eight finalist squads in each of the categories – the first two in each series – have achieved a direct place for the Games, while the remaining six tickets, until completing the 14 per event, They will be for the first two classified in each of the play-off series played this Sunday.

Eva Santidrián, Berta Segura, Herminia Parra and Laura Bueno, in the women’s 4×400, concluded the third series in fourth position with a time of 3:31.09 – the eighth national record in history – which allowed them to be fourteenth overall.

For its part, the men’s 4×400, without Óscar Husillos – suffering from gastrointestinal problems – and consisting of Iñaki Cañal, Lucas Búa, Manuel Guijarro and Bernart Erta, stopped the clock at 3:06.84, twenty-second time of the total.

Finally, in the mixed 4×400, the Spanish team made up of David García Zurita, Blanca Hervás, Julio Arenas and Carmen Avilés finished their series fifth with a mark of 3:15.47 -second best Spanish mark of all time-, but was thirteenth in the global calculation, with the United States in the lead (3:11.52).
