The Spanish Paralympic Team moves 17.8 tons of luggage for Paris 2024

MADRID, 25 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) announced on Sunday that its expedition of athletes who will participate in the Paris 2024 Games, scheduled from August 28 to September 8, will have 17.8 tons of luggage, transported both by air and land.

This is what the CPE stated on its website. “Around 15 tonnes will be at the Paralympic Village thanks to three Iberia flights, which cover around 175 cubic metres divided into 998 packages, 522 suitcases with equipment, 82 wheelchairs (including sports and strollers) and 22 boxes of clothing,” the press release stressed.

“In addition, another 2.8 tons will be transported by road, divided into 300 packages with a capacity of 85 cubic meters. Among the packages transported are also office supplies, medical equipment, stretchers, first aid kits, bicycles, bows, arrows, javelins, rifles, rackets, racing chairs, spare wheels, trunks and tool cases, among other things,” summarized the CPE statement.

The Spanish Paralympic Team, as recalled in the same note, “is made up of 259 people, of which 150 are athletes (139 with disabilities, plus 11 support staff, including athletics and triathlon guides, and rowing helmsmen) and 109 more members, including coaches, technicians, doctors, physiotherapists, mechanics and organisation staff.”

Spanish athletes will compete in 16 of the 22 sports on the Paralympic programme at Paris 2024: athletics, wheelchair basketball, boccia, cycling, wheelchair fencing, weightlifting, judo, swimming, canoeing, rowing, taekwondo, table tennis, wheelchair tennis, shooting, archery and triathlon.

“Women make up 38% of Spanish athletes with disabilities in Paris 2024. The average age is 33.2 years, while 45 athletes (31%) will make their debut at the Paralympic Games,” the statement said. “Judoka Marta Arce and table tennis player Álvaro Valera will be the standard-bearers of the Spanish team at the Opening Ceremony,” it concluded.
