The Spanish motocross GP begins with Jorge Prado and Daniela Guillén at the top

MADRID, 23 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Motocross World Championship began its event this Saturday in the Community of Madrid with a prominent role for the favorite Spanish riders, since Jorge Prado (GasGas) and Daniela Guillén (GasGas) did not disappoint on the intu Xanadú circuit located in Arroyomolinos.

The reigning champion and current MXGP leader, Jorge Prado, kept the red plate after his resounding victory in the qualifying round. For her part, runner-up Daniela Guillén started the season with a victory in the first race, which also placed her in the lead.

There were no doubts for Prado, as he set the best time in training and made a qualifying round to frame, leading alone from start to finish. With that level of form exhibited, it is likely that the Lugo driver will win a double during this Spanish Grand Prix.

Slovenian Tim Gajser was second ahead of Frenchman Maxime Renaux and Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings, while Frenchman Romain Febvre also had a bad day. They will be Prado’s main rivals, especially the Dutchman, who knows well what it means to win in Arroyomolinos, where he achieved his 102nd victory in 2023.

In MX2, the Spanish did not shine in the qualifying round. Oriol Oliver was eleventh and Yago Martínez achieved a nineteenth position. The fastest was the Dutchman Kay de Wolf, who will go all out this Sunday. The Husqvarna rider, who is the leader of his category, wants to start strong and put distance between himself and those behind from the beginning of the season.

GUILLÉN HIGHLIGHTS

In the 250 cc European Championship, the best Spaniard was Gerard Congost, who finished in eighth position ahead of Fran García. Valerio Lata took the victory. Great feelings for both after the first race, which they hope to finish on Sunday morning.

On the other hand, Daniela Guillén took center stage on WMX. Despite a bad start, she climbed back to second place and, when she was about to overtake the race leader, it was a fall by the New Zealander Courtney Duncan that opened doors for the Spaniard to win her first race of the course.

Guillén usually grows in the Spanish Grand Prix and wants the victory to show that her coming of age has focused her goal of being world champion even more. However, she will have to do the rest on Sunday to leave Arroyomolinos as the leader of this World Cup.
