The Catalan Paul McGrath, Spanish champion of the distance, contributed decisively to the collective victory with his second position (1:19:14), only behind the Swede Perseus Karlström (1:18:49), world runner-up in Budapest 2023.

With this, Spain rose to first place in the classification with 14 points, ahead of Japan (28) and Italy (36), and thus won its second gold in the men’s event, after the one achieved in A Coruña 2006.

For its part, in the absolute women’s category, Spain, represented by Paula Juárez, Antía Chamosa, Lidia Sánchez-Puebla and Lucía Redondo, won the bronze medal (31 points) in a test in which China won (15) against to Peru (15).
