The Spanish men's rugby seven team finishes eighth in the Perth World Series

The 'Leonas' finish twelfth

MADRID, 28 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men's rugby sevens team finished in eighth position in the third round of the Sevens World Series (SVNS), held in Perth (Australia), while the women's team finished twelfth after losing to Japan.

The 'Lions', who achieved their best position of the season -eighth-, shone in the victory against Canada to close the group stage, but in the quarterfinals they fell against Argentina, current leader of the circuit and eventual champion of the tournament oceanic.

Those of Paco Hernández and Matías Tudela closed the event against the United States. The speed of the 'Eagles' and the three tries of their star, Perry Baker, left the effort of the Spanish in nothing, who despite competing with only nine players on the last day of competition achieved two marks, by Josep Serres and Anton Legorburu (12-27).

Thus, Spain achieves six vital points in the general classification, in which it rises to tenth position to enter the fight for eighth position on the circuit.

For their part, the 'Lionesses' finished fourth in the group stage and lost 10-12 in the semifinals for ninth place against South Africa. This Sunday, they lost their only and last game against Japan (5-33); Anne Fernández de Corres' try in the second half gave hope to the team of Alberto Socías and María Ribera, but the Japanese capitalized on the advantage gained in the first half, 0-26, and won the battle to avoid the last position of the team. tournament.

Spain continues to close the classification of the world elite circuit of the Olympic discipline, adding four points achieved in the three series played so far.

The two teams will compete again at the HSBC SVNS in a month, from February 23 to 25 in Vancouver (Canada). The 'Lionesses' and the 'Lions' will reach the halfway point of the competition and will face the final stretch of the season that will end in Madrid, from May 31 to June 2 at the Cívitas Metropolitano with the Grand Final of the Series.
