The Spanish Marta García, first champion of the F1 Academy

MADRID, 21 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Marta García became the first F1 Academy champion this Saturday, by winning the opening race of the three United States Grand Prix in Austin, her seventh victory of 2023 to lift the title.

García, 23 years old, won the Circuit of The Americas, fulfilling his favoritism after taking pole the previous day. The British Abbi Pulling (Rodin Carlin) put pressure on the Spanish woman from Prema Racing, who received congratulations from seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).

The one from Denia held off Pulling and also her teammate Jessica Edgar, who showed a good rhythm like in the second classification on Friday. García’s victory made her the first champion of the new all-female Formula 1 championship.

The F1 Academy, which by 2024 will have drivers from all F1 teams, was sentenced with no options for Lena Buhler and Hamda Al Qubaisi to hunt down the Spanish. The race was marked by the accident in the first corner and the safety car.

After six laps waiting to restart the race, García once again controlled his rivals, who fought from behind without being able to hunt down Prema. The Spaniard won in Austin ahead of Pulling and Buhler to become the first F1 Academy champion, a championship that will take another big leap in 2024.
