The Spanish Carlos Gimeno, third in the final of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

MADRID, 29 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Carlos Gimeno got on the podium with third place in the final of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series held this Sunday in New Zealand, where the Romanian Constantin Popovici and the Australian Rhiannan Iffland won.

The iconic Waitemata port brought together more than 55,000 people and the Spaniard, who won in Mostar in September, gave the surprise by entering the podium, the first time a wildcard has achieved it.

Meanwhile, Constantin Popovici's victory ended four years of Gary Hunt's dominance, beating his compatriot Catalin Preda to take the victory by two points. Two points with which he finally achieved his dream from the 27-meter platform.

“This competition has been one of the most difficult of the season. I came here with an injury and I didn't know what was going to happen, but I told myself: 'You have to fight,' and that's what I did. This trophy is the reward for effort and daily hard work,” declared the brand new winner.

In the women's competition there was no opportunity for surprises. Rhiannan Iffland arrived in Auckland 130 points ahead of Canadian Molly Carlson in the general classification and, after 20 weeks of rest since the last competition in Mostar, the Australian did not let up with another victory.

“I feel very excited. Despite the break, it was worth the effort, I am very proud of how I did today. I dedicate this victory to my parents for all the effort they have made to support me in my sporting career. Tonight we will celebrate together,” he confessed.

The Australian Xantheia Pannisi was second while the Canadian Jessica Macaulay, in her last participation in the World Series before retiring from the sport, put a finishing touch to her career by completing the women's podium in New Zealand.
