The Championship of Spain AXA of Paralympic Promises that was held this weekend in Valdemoro (Madrid) concluded with a new victory by Jacobo Garrido and the success in the seven attempts of world records that had been programmed by several Spanish swimmers.
The Coruña swimmer repeated triumph in this event that brought together 150 children with disabilities under 18 in the 25-meter indoor pool of Valdesanchuela. The Galician, who competes in the S9 class for the physically disabled, received for the second consecutive year the title of best athlete, which is awarded to the participant who is closest to the world record in any of his tests.
The one of the CN Liceo, of 17 years, did it in the 400 free, test in which he already won the gold in the World Cup in London 2019, and also broke the world records in 800 and 1,500 meters. After him, the Almeria-born Ukrainian Anastasiya Dmytriv (S9), 11 years old, concluded by the mark in 50 breasts, and the Valencian with visual impairment Enrique Alhambra (S13), who is also part as Garrido of Team AXA of Paralympic Promises, for its chrono in the 100 back.
Regarding the age classifications, the juveniles (for those born and born between 2002 and 2004) were also led by Jacobo Garrido and the Basque Nahia Zudaire (S8), the children (between 2005 and 2007) went to Iker Ruiz (S9 ) and Ariadna Galache (S14), and fry (under 12 years old), for Hugo Rubio (S11) and Anastasiya Dmytriv. The federations of the Valencian Community (FESA) led the team classification.
In addition to this Championship of Spain, the weekend also featured the attempt of six swimmers who belong or have belonged to the AXA Team to break different world records. Together with the two achieved by Jacobo Garrido, Ariadna Edo (1,500 free S13), Íñigo Llopis and María Delgado (200 back S8 and S12), Sergio Martos (200 butterfly s8) and Nuria Marquès (50 back S9) were successful.
The president of the AXA Foundation, Olga Sánchez, participated in the trophy presentation; the presidents of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE), Miguel Carballeda, the FEDDF, José Alberto Álvarez, and the FEDPC, Julián Rebollo, and the mayor of Valdemoro, Sergio Parra, among other authorities.
This competition is part of the AXA Project of Paralympic Swimming Promises, whose objective is to serve as a preliminary step for athletes who can subsequently join the ADOP Plan and become part of the Spanish Paralympic Team in future international competitions.
The goal is to achieve a high level of performance for selected swimmers in the medium and long term, through technical training and specialization plans, assistance to national and international competitions, and support for coaches and clubs, with an eye on the Games of Paris 2024.
