The Spanish and Iberdrola rugby Super Cups will be held in Palencia and Avilés

MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Rugby Super Cup, which will be contested by VRAC Quesos Entrepinares and Recoletas Burgos Caja Rural, will be held in Palencia on Sunday 29 September, while the Iberdrola Super Cup, which will be contested by Silicius Rugby Majadahonda and CRAT Rialta, will be played on Sunday 15 September in Avilés (Asturias).

According to the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation (FERugby), the current champion of the División de Honor, VRAC Quesos Entrepinares, and the current champion of the Copa del Rey, Recoletas Burgos Caja Rural, agreed that the match will be held at the Nueva Balastera Municipal Stadium in Palencia on Sunday, September 29 at 12:00.

The Palencia venue has a capacity for 8,100 spectators and has hosted, among others, the finals of the Super Cup in 2012 and the Copa del Rey in 2014. Both titles, contested in Palencia, were ultimately won by VRAC Quesos Entrepinares, beating Ampo Ordizia and Independiente RC, respectively.

For its part, Recoletas Burgos Caja Rural, the current champion of the competition, will try to retain the title it won for the first time last year and add its third national title.

Last season’s three finals featured the same two teams. The Super Cup (27-30) and Copa del Rey (19-20) went to the visiting side, Burgos, and the same thing happened in the División de Honor (19-20), but with the exception that on that occasion the visiting side was the defending champion, VRAC.

For its part, the current champion of the Iberdrola Rugby League and the RFER Cup, Silicius Rugby Majadahonda, and the current runners-up of both competitions, CRAT Rialta, will play their final of the III Iberdrola Super Cup on Sunday 15 September at 1:00 p.m. at the Yago Lamela Stadium in Avilés, with the collaboration of Pasek Belenos, the Municipal Sports Foundation and the Avilés City Council.

After winning a full set of titles last season, Silicius Rugby Majadahonda will be looking for their third consecutive Super Cup. The ‘Rhinas’, after winning the League, Super Cup, RFER Cup and Iberdrola Iberian Cup, will try to establish themselves in Asturias as the only female team to be a super champion in Spain.

Meanwhile, CRAT Rialta will seek to dethrone a team that they have faced in the finals of the last two rugby XV national titles at stake. In their last encounter, the final of the Iberdrola Rugby League, the Galicians were left with nothing on their lips and saw how a penalty kick in the last minute of play deprived them of the victory that would have meant their third league title.
