The VI edition of the Solidarity Race Marrow for Mateo (www.carreramedulaparamateo.com) will be held on September 17 in Rivas Vaciamadrid (Madrid) with the dual objective of continuing to raise awareness about bone marrow donation and raising funds to promote research into child cancer.
“As a child I had leukemia, but Dr. Antonio Pérez Martínez cured me thanks to a bone marrow donor. I want everyone to sign up so that he can continue researching at Hospital La Paz with the CRIS foundation against cancer and heal many more children. People can come to run, to do it on foot, as a family, with friends, with their children… and also with their dogs! The more we are, the more help and the more people will know how easy it is to donate bone marrow” said Mateo, the young man who inspired the initiative and who received his bone marrow transplant eight years ago.

All the proceeds from the race will go to the La Paz Hospital Advanced Therapies Unit for childhood cancer, financed by the CRIS Foundation against cancer under the direction of Dr. Antonio Pérez Martínez, Head of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Service, and specifically to the Matthew Project.
This new line of research on the strange leukemia that Mateo was diagnosed with just a month and a half of life seeks a therapeutic target for juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, which is a hopeful path for this disease.
The event, with distances of 4 km, 8 km and children’s distances, will take place in Rivas Vaciamadrid on September 17, World Marrow Donor Day, and the route has not been revealed, since participants can play a guess at registration the time they will perform and whoever hits it -running without a watch or similar devices- will also be the winner.
This new edition has the altruistic organizational seal of the Zancadas Athletics Club, the collaboration of TodoEscapeRooms and NoizzeMedia, the sponsorship of El Corte Inglés, Redpiso, DC Redit, MetLife, Tcronometro, Solan de Cabras, MoonWater, the Atlético de Madrid Foundation and the support from Marrow for All and the Marrow Team of the Transfusion Center of the Community of Madrid to raise awareness about the importance of donating marrow.
