The soap opera is over: Munir will be able to play with Morocco

Sevilla forward Munir El Haddadi from Madrid will finally be able to play for the Moroccan national team, his parents' country of origin, After the FIFA has admitted the appeal of the Alawite federation to the sentence of November Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) that prevented him from doing so, sources close to the player reported.

Munir, 25, played the last minutes of a match with the Spanish national team in 2014, against North Macedonia in Valencia (5-1), which in theory disabled him to represent another team as this was an official match, qualifying for the Euro 2016.

Not having reached the age of 21 then, the Moroccan Federation understood that Munir could still be eligible for the country of his parents and tried in vain to summon him for the 2018 World Cup and, last November, for two friendlies against Senegal and Congo in which he did not participate due to the aforementioned resolution of the TAS.

Despite this change in sports nationality, Munir El Haddadi will continue to count for the quotas of the continental tournaments as a national player, since he has played throughout his formative stage in Spanish clubs: Atlético de Madrid, Rayo Majadahonda and, from a youthful age, in Barcelona.
