The Skoda Titan Desert Morocco 2023 presented this Thursday its route for the new edition, which will be held from April 30 to May 5 between Boumalne Dades and Maadid, with more than 600 kilometers of testing and a commitment to the contrast of heights with the desert sand.
The route will have hard climbs to the highest levels of the area, with crossings through dunes in the middle of the desert and to recover and reinforce the “Titan spirit”. There will be more than 620 kilometers with 7,700 meters of accumulated unevenness in the six planned stages.
“Mountains, desert, fast tracks and navigation sections are combined in one of the most spectacular and innovative editions in living memory,” the organization said at the presentation of the route in Barcelona.
The first two days of competition take place around the Atlas Mountains, an area with many kilometers unknown for the test and which will account for a large part of the positive difference in altitude. From there, the race will travel through other more recognizable terrain with priority for navigation.
The Skoda Titan Desert Morocco 2023 will include stages 3 and 4 of the marathon –without mechanical assistance and with haimas without acclimatization–, while stage 2 will include the Skoda Challenge (bonus timed section for the general classification) and there will be sectors of navigation in three stages.
“Each year we seek to innovate and create different adventures. I believe that this year we have truly succeeded,” explained Titan World Series CEO Jesús García. “This is precisely what continues to motivate us after 17 editions: never stop generating unique emotions and surprising the Titans,” he argued.
Some of the participants who will start on April 30 were also present at the event. The five-time winner of the Tour de France Miguel Indurain will be one of the big stars of the event, which he faces with “satisfaction” and the goal of finishing, after his only previous participation in the Titan de Almería 2020.
Along with Indurain, and sharing a jersey on the same team, will be the current champion of the event in his men’s classification, the Swiss Konny Looser. Winner in 2021 and 2022, Looser will have a “tremendously demanding” journey to repeat his victory.
