The RFET negotiates a proprietary ATP tournament in Turin

Miguel Díaz and Andrea Gaudenzi meet at the ATP Finals

MADRID, 19 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), Miguel Díaz, and the president of the ATP, Andrea Gaudenzi, met this Saturday in Turin, on the stage of the ATP Finals, to “continue exploring the possibility that the the highest body of Spanish tennis has a proper ATP tournament”.

This was announced by the RFET in a statement about a negotiation after the success of the Gijón Open in October. “We have developed the best professional tennis calendar in the world, now we have to strengthen it with an ATP tournament and another WTA,” Díaz said.

The meeting was also attended by two vice presidents of the ATP, Ross Hutchins and Geoffroy Bourbon, as well as the director of the Gijón Open, Tomás Carbonell and the general director of the RFET, Lorenzo Martínez. “The top leaders of the ATP and the RFET have agreed to continue negotiating the possibility that the Spanish leader is pursuing to consolidate ownership of a week on the ATP circuit,” adds the RFET.
