The RFET inaugurates its first owned headquarters in Barcelona

The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has inaugurated this Thursday its new headquarters in the city of Barcelona, ​​the first owned by the entity in its more than one hundred years of history. The Secretary of State for Sports, Irene Lozano, has discovered the commemorative plaque together with the president of the RFET, Miguel Díaz Román.

The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco; the Director of the Consell Català de l’Esport of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Antoni Reig; the Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé; and the president of the Catalan Tennis Federation, Jordi Tamayo.

Former Spanish tennis champions such as Sergi Bruguera or Àlex Corretja, have accompanied the authorities in a limited act in compliance with health measures prevention of COVID-19.

Link with the city of Barcelona

In her first official visit to the city of Barcelona, ​​the Secretary of State for Sports Irene Lozano highlighted the journey that the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation began in 1909: “It is an honor to be here today because I know it is a very special day for Spanish tennis. I think it is essential that this heart of Spanish sport that beats in Catalonia takes root with this headquarters ”.

The president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, also underlined that: “In Barcelona and Catalonia, sport has always had a special dimension. In this city there has been something that has been fundamental and that has taught us all: the large number of clubs in which, in addition to tennis, there was a social part that has created a generation of citizens with the values ​​of sport ”.

For his part, the president of the RFET, Miguel Díaz Román, highlighted the historic day for the entity: “Having a headquarters in property after more than one hundred years of history of our Federation is something very important. We have a fantastic relationship with the Catalan institutions, we go hand in hand in many things and there was no reason to change because we are very comfortable in Catalonia ”.

First owned headquarters

Since its foundation in 1909 at the Real Club de Tenis San Sebastián, the RFET has stayed in different locations in the city of Barcelona. The most recent at the Estadi Olímpic “Lluís Companys” on the Montjuïc mountain.

The new RFET headquarters is located in the City building, located in the Les Corts District, very close to the intersection of Avenida Diagonal and Gran Via de Carles III.

With a total area of ​​almost 500 m2, the new Spanish tennis house occupies the entire ground floor of the property and part of the first, in which the offices of the Presidency and General Management are located.

The facilities have several open work areas, a small library and a large multipurpose room for meetings and official events.
