Luis Rubiales celebrated the signing of the contract to take the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia, but according to El Confidencial, there was another possible destination and that was very close to being real. The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation sent a voice message to Gerard Piqué, who participated as an intermediary through his company Kosmos, to congratulate the Catalan for signing the commitment that would bring an interesting amount of money to the Federation in addition to the Barcelona central company in ‘success commissions’. This business closed between the two was revealed by El Confidencial, which ensures that there was a pre-agreement with Qatar also as a possible destination.
The importance of this pre-contract is that it was almost as advantageous for the Federation and, always according to this medium, did not require the payment of commissions to any intermediary. The RFEF, which came to stamp its seal on the pre-contract, rejected it.
Internal emails show that three weeks before closing its agreement with Saudi Arabia, the RFEF closed an almost identical agreement to play the Super Cup in Doha, Qatar. The pre-contract, signed by Mansoor Al-Ansari, secretary general of the Qatar Federation, and Andreu Camps, his counterpart at the RFEF, established a six-season commitment in which Qatar would pay 33 million euros per edition and would also provide its audiovisual platform, Bein, to broadcast the three matches of the tournament in the territory.
These 33 million euros of payment did not include any type of penalty if Real Madrid and Barça did not enter, as if it happened in the case of Saudi Arabia, which raised its amount to 40 million. That of Qatar was fixed and also included a bonus of 3% annual increase from the fourth year of the contract.
El Confidencial points out that, in addition, this contract was closed without the intermediation of Gerard Piqué and that in this case there would have been no need to pay any “success commission”. They ensure that the documents do not include the possibility of payment to third parties.
This medium assures and shows through more audios of conversations between Gerard Piqué and Luis Rubiales that he told him to follow the path to play in Saudi Arabia, rejecting Qatar’s offer. “Rubi, I perfectly understand your position, but think about it for a moment. If you now… everyone already knows… it was a rumor that we were going to Saudi Arabia. If you now switch to another site simply because these people have found out about this, they will use it against you. They are going to say that you were going to go to Saudi Arabia, you were going to do this and since they caught you, well now you change places (…) I would value it, because in this way you show that you were not doing anything wrong, you understand? And besides, you go with the same people and with the same price, etcetera, etcetera. And you can say, ‘No, no, you were wrong. This is a lie, what you are saying.’ That’s why, damn, give it a spin. We have until the 8th to talk about it and we think about it. Voucher? We don’t lose anything in that,” Piqué pointed out in August 2019 in a telematic conversation with Luis Rubiales.
Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF responded to the information published today by El Confidencial about the contract with Qatar that did not come to fruition. According to Rubiales, the information is false both because of the amount and because it was the Qatari party that He didn’t want to finish it.
“Today the Qatar contract appears, false. We explained it to him and he didn’t care about the truth. Don’t let a good article spoil you, more so if it hurts. The Qatar contract, which is subject to a condition, is an agreement that is It would remain in about 30 that had to be validated by one body at a time and they did not validate it. The offer was not perfected “.
