The RFEF presents Atlético with a trophy won in 1947!

Curious and historical act the one celebrated in the Soccer City of Las Rozas. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has delivered to the Atlético de Madrid the President's Cup that the rojiblanco team conquered … in 1947!

The President's Cup was a quadrangular tournament that began in 1941 and ended six years later, in 1947, with Atlético as the winner. Thus, the mattress set began the tournament calling itself Athletic Aviation and he ended it with his current name, Atlético de Madrid. That is, it is the first title of the club with its current name.

That cup, in 1941, was to be a quadrangular tournament, the Iberian Tournament, to be played between Portuguese and Spanish clubs, an initiative that ultimately did not prosper. And as an alternative, the Federation President's Cup was created, which played the Athletic Club, Barcelona, Atlético Aviación and Valencia. The six days were played between April and May 1941 and a match was pending, which was to be played by Atlético de Madrid and Valencia, who were leading the standings. The che had seven points and the mattresses had six.

The game, although it was the first day, which had been postponed, turned into a final that ended up being played on September 14, 1947. Atlético won 4-0 at the Metropolitano, with two goals from Basabe and two others Alfonso Silva. The then president of the RFEF, Armando Muñoz Calero, presented the trophy to Atlético and now, 73 years later, the cup has returned to its owner, the rojiblanco club.

SHOW IN THE 'ATLETI TERRITORY'

Elvira Andrés, from the RFEF Management Commission, presented the trophy to the Club's Operations and Operations director, Fernando Fariza, and the president of the Association of Legends of Atlético de Madrid, Roberto Solozábal. The President's Cup will shine in the club's new museum, Territorio Atleti, which will open its doors this weekend.
