The spokesman for the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Javier Matallanas, accused the general director of Osasuna, Fran Canal, of “lying to save the image” of the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, and “hiding the truth” from the ‘rojilla’ fans “with false propaganda” about the exclusion of the Navarrese team from the Conference League, where “the voice of Osasuna has been that of Tebas”.
“Luis Sabalza is an appreciated president in the RFEF and it makes us sad that Osasuna has the argument of Fran Canal, someone who lies and messes up to save the image of Thebes in this whole matter. It seems that in Osasuna instead of sending the partners, they send Canal, a man from Thebes. It has been seen in this administration that he does not mind lying slavishly in order to help Thebes,” Matallanas denounced in statements to Europa Press.
The UEFA Appeals Committee confirmed this week that Osasuna will not be able to play the Conference League next season, a decision that the Navarrese club considered “a serious violation of their rights.” Before, the governing body of European football recommended making this decision due to the corruption of the board of directors that existed nine years ago at the Pamplona club. The Navarrese club did not hesitate to charge against the RFEF, considering the position of the federation as an “attack”.
Now, from the RFEF they insist that “the only institution that has helped Osasuna in its allegations has been the RFEF faithfully replicating the arguments of the club itself in its defense.” “Thebes denounced Osasuna and wanted to accuse the club. I use people from the club and recorded them to secure the complaint,” they explained from the RFEF.
“Those people are in jail and coincidentally a man of theirs is the one who controls the club. Canal puts the RFEF in the mud as a smoke screen, but with Tebas general amnesia sets in,” said Matallanas.
The spokesman remarked that the RFEF “believes that the Osasuna managers have helped to clean up this situation” denounced by UEFA, which however “understands that the damage has not been cleaned up” and therefore there are “consequences”. “We agree with Osasuna in their arguments but we must respect the decisions made by the autonomous bodies of UEFA,” he reiterated.
“That Canal has reached Osasuna is the true chupinazo of Tebas. Canal defends the interests of Tebas ahead of Osasuna’s interests and has shown it by trying to point out the RFEF by not telling the truth. He knows that the RFEF has defended Osasuna before UEFA using his own defense arguments and unfortunately he has manipulated and hidden the truth in Navarra with false propaganda,” he criticized.
Thus, the RFEF lamented, with “sadness”, the “weakening of the voice of Osasuna fans in favor of a man from Thebes”, in reference to Fran Canal. “Osasuna’s voice in all of this has been the voice of Tebas,” Matallanas asserted emphatically. “Canal has hidden Rubiales’ response, in which he assured him that the RFEF would participate in the procedure helping the club. No one has yet recognized this and Mr. Fran Canal knows that it is so,” he stressed.
“Why do you do it? Because you don’t care that Osasuna’s partners know the truth. Rather, what matters to you is that there is no talk of Thebes even though they hide the truth and lie blatantly. Canal has tried to prevent the focus from being in Thebes and has tried to manipulate the Osasuna fans. He wanted to convey that the RFEF did not want to do anything and it has been shown that he is lying. From the RFEF we have defended the club with the same arguments”, he concluded.
