The RFEF adheres to the United Nations Football for the Goals initiative

MADRID, 15 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will become a new member of the United Nations (UN) Football for the Goals initiative, which will be accompanied by a promotional campaign for the World Cup in Qatar or the Spanish Super Cup .

The president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, will be in charge of presenting this Tuesday, accompanied by representatives of the UN and the Government of Spain, this agreement, with which the federative body adheres to the platform provided to the world football community to that it commits and advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as defending an approach based on respect for human rights.

“In this way, the RFEF reinforces its already solid commitment to the objectives pursued by the United Nations, crystallized in recent times in actions such as turning the Las Rozas federation into the first sustainable sports complex, making the grand final of the Copa del Rey the first with precise measurement of its carbon footprint or carry out different awareness campaigns led by Spanish international players in pursuit of the use of clean energy and against discrimination of any kind in the soccer and society in general,” said the federation.

“From now on, the RFEF will incorporate in a structured way the work that leads to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and whose immediate promotion involves continuing to advance in their achievement through campaigns similar to those that have already led to notable advances in this regard during the celebration of the latest editions of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia”, he added.

Rubiales stressed that the agreement means “taking an important step in the defense of the principles” that “always” have defended “both with Spanish football and with society as a whole.” “In this sense, I have always believed that the best way to improve a society different from ours is to flood it with the positive aspects that we can contribute and from now on we will do it in a better way thanks to our alliance with the United Nations and its initiative Football for the Goals”, concluded.
