The RFEF adheres to the COE Sustainability manifesto

MADRID, 26 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) will work together on the sustainable development of sport, after the federative body adhered to the Sustainability manifesto of the Olympic institution.

The president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, and the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, staged this Monday a symbolic act of adhesion that will mean applying sustainability policies in the sports field, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which they are also in line with the Sustainability Strategy launched by UEFA. The RFEF is the first federation to join this manifesto.

Thus, both organizations will join efforts to promote the practice of sports to promote health and well-being; promote sustainable mobility in sport and sporting events; promote the circular economy and an efficient waste management system; educate and raise awareness of social and environmental sustainability; work on the energy transition of Spanish sport; digital transformation of sport and more efficient management of sports entities; sponsorship programs for social action in sport and promotion of gender equality.

As explained by the RFEF, many of its projects in this area will be “reinforced” by this commitment. In this way, the City of Football is a Sustainable City after the agreement with Iberdrola that has allowed the installation of solar panels and electric recharging points for vehicles, among other measures.

In addition, projects are being developed to “reduce water consumption, eliminate rubber balls from artificial grass fields, reduce plastic, recycle and delve into the so-called circular economy”. Also at the level of human sustainability, projects have been developed such as the agreement with the ONCE Foundation to incorporate volunteers with disabilities in national team matches, integration of people with disabilities in the staff of the women’s team or the so-called ‘Box 0’ to make causes visible social in national team matches.
