The RFEC and the CSD sign a “historic” agreement in favor of track cycling

MADRID, 9 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) and the Higher Sports Council (CSD) have signed together with the professional teams Fundación Euskadi and Burgos BH a “historic” agreement that will allow the ‘pistards’ to combine competitions with their teams route with his commitments with the Spanish track cycling team.

“This agreement could be historic because of what it represents for the future of Spanish track cycling, I am convinced that more teams will join, since this reflects the union of all those involved in the task of achieving the best successes for cycling. on a Spanish track”, assessed the president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, at the signing ceremony held this Tuesday at the organization’s headquarters.

For José Luis Cerrón, president of the RFEC, it is a “very important” agreement for his organization, since it favors coordination between the coach and the teams, when preparing for international competitions. “We have been looking for an agreement of this type for some time, which allows the ‘pistards’ to run competitions on the road and there are no problems when the coach wants to take them to international competitions on the track,” he commented.

The women’s track cycling coach, Gema Pascual, valued the agreement as “a very important step” for track cycling, both when preparing the competitions and to combine both disciplines. “It can make great track runners who went on the road come back and make Spain much more competitive,” she concluded.

The great beneficiaries of the agreement are cyclists, such as Sebastián Mora, a Burgos BH cyclist and one of the great medal options at the 2024 Paris Olympics, in track cycling. “This initiative is very good for cycling and we hope that this commitment will be lasting and effective,” he explained.

For her part, Laura Rodríguez, from the Euskadi Foundation and one of the ‘pistards’ with the greatest projection in Spain, commented that competing on the road is “necessary” to improve on the track, as well as showing her desire to “take advantage” of this agreement and continue helping his team and the selection.
