The RFEBM lays the foundations for the future of handball at its Ordinary General Assembly 2022

The Iberian Cup is born, for men and women, and the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola will have a ‘playoff’ for the title

MADRID, 11 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Santander Bank headquarters in Madrid hosted this Saturday the governing body of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEMM), the culmination of the 2021/2022 season, in an Ordinary General Assembly that laid the foundations for the future of Spanish handball.

The president of the RFEBM, Francisco Vidal Blázquez, opened the session remembering all those members of the handball family who died in the last year, with an emotional minute of silence. Already on the agenda of the Assembly, Blázquez highlighted the great effort of the RFEBM, institutions and sponsors who turned to organize the celebration of the first Women’s World Championship in the history of Spain.

The president of the RFEBM also reviewed the media impact of the federation’s activity, especially through the spot for the Warriors with the participation of Carlos Baute in the official song of the World Championship and the Hispanic spot for the Championship of Europe 2022.

In addition, the general director of the Federation, Jesús Ludeña, made an economic balance for the 2021 financial year of the federative entity, which reflects a surplus of 685,361 euros. The organization of the 2021 Women’s World Championship yielded a profit of 961,134 euros. A figure that reflects the success of the historic event and that raised the RFEBM’s budget, which exceeded the barrier of 23 million euros.

Approved the budgets for the 2022 financial year, the Sports Management Report and the setting of participation fees, federative licenses and arbitration fees for the 2022/2023 season, the General Assembly approved several sports proposals from the assembly members and the Board of Directors, as well as the sports calendar for the next campaign.

Among those approved proposals, the creation of the Iberian Super Cup for both men and women stands out, with the participation of the champions of the League and Cup of Spain and Portugal in a Final Four format in one weekend, and, also, the restructuring of the women’s categories starting next season, with the creation of the Gold Honor Division and the implementation of a play-off for the title and a play-down for remaining in the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola as great novelties.

On the other hand, the rounds prior to the final phase of the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina will be played in a single match, and the use of the ‘Video Proof System’ in televised matches was approved, after the tests carried out in the last major events . In addition, the proposal on ASOBAL, point 9.1.1 of the agenda, has been withdrawn. ASOBAL has signed an addendum recognizing the ownership of the TV rights of the King’s Cup and the Spanish Super Cup for the RFEBM.
