The referees raise their voices against the threats to their president

Luis Medina Cantalejo, president of the Technical Committee of Referees, He continues to receive the support of his entire group. last weekend iThe police had to contact him and go to his home due to the threats received. Luis Rubiales, last Wednesday, and now all the First and Second referees have shown their support and their condemnation of said situation.

The entire arbitration group of the First and Second Division raises its voice against the event of last weekend: “We strongly condemn an event that we consider extremely serious. The threats received and the public harassment to which Luis Medina and his family have been subjected cannot happen again”. “We transfer to the president the maximum support and affection of the entire group,” they add.

In addition, the referees point to the clubs and ask to lower the tension: “We assume that our profession is exposed to error and criticism, but we especially ask the clubs to exercise responsibility in communication to prevent situations such as those experienced from being regretted again.”

These last lines refer to two tweets from First Division clubs published last weekend. Valencia wrote in its account the following about Hernández Hernández and the decision to award a penalty on Casemiro: “The robbery thing in Madrid is starting to get repetitive, @lacasadepapel.” Later it would be Betis: “Real Betis has been absolutely respectful of the refereeing team for many years, but today’s refereeing is incomprehensible. The role of the referees is to impart justice, not the ignominy that we have experienced today in Vallecas.”

Full statement from the arbitration group

“First of all, we want to thank the words of our president Luis Rubiales for his new defense of our collective and the figure of Luis Medina Cantalejo at a particularly sad time for Spanish arbitration.

The referees of the First and Second division want to strongly condemn through these lines a fact that we consider extremely serious. The threats received and the public harassment to which Luis Medina and his family have been subjected cannot happen again.

Within the values of football and sport there is no place for this type of behavior. For this reason, we convey to the president of our CTA the maximum support and affection of the entire group.

In the same way that we accept that this sport and our profession is exposed to error and criticism, we ask all football agents, especially clubs, to exercise responsibility in communicating with their members and fans to prevent them from becoming regret situations such as those experienced recently and even more serious.
