The recognized president of the FEF will ask for the resignation of Cruyff

Francisco Egas, recognized by Conmebol and FIFA how President of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), intends to request the resignation of Jordi Cruyff and look for a new coach for the selection.

This is clear from the support that has requested this Friday to the members of the FEF Directory to lead in person the removal of the coach from the Ecuadorian national team, who already on Thursday communicated to him from Spain that its continuity was being rethought.

“He has requested the authorization of the six members who are in disagreement with his actions (of Egas) in the FEF. We will participate in the Board session next Tuesday, we will listen to him and see what is decided,” confirmed the director. Carlos Galarza.

Galarza is one of the managers who Egas was removed from the FEF presidency last April, in a motion of censure that has not been recognized by the international soccer organizations that are referents in the region.

The motion was related to the process and amounts of hiring Cruyff as coach, and the sports director, Antonio Cordón, who resigned on Tuesday as a result of the institutional and financial crisis that has shaken the institution in the last three months.

Both had been hired by Egas about seven months ago to spearhead a long-term national project, but the coronavirus, the consequent financial problems in the FEF and the endless internal intrigues, questioned the viability of the entire project.

Cruyff, who was due to return on Thursday to resume the project on-site, informed Egas by phone that He remained in Spain and asked him for a few days to rethink the situation, which “bothered” the top manager.

And anticipating a more than probable resignation of the Spanish-Dutch, Egas has decided to initiate the separation and look for a coach for the South American playoffs, originally scheduled for October.

This after their opponents in the Directory, including Jaime Estradhis vice president and leader of the rebel group were required this Friday to manage the Cruyff contract for themselves.

“Let the Board of Directors take charge of the situation, which from the beginning was not clear,” Estrada wrote on social media.

Dismissal at the initiative of Egas may be a tactic of the latter to stabilize the situation in the FEF and obtain support for his management of the dissident group, given that Cruyff's voluntary departure would have dealt a severe blow to the image of his project and his questioned management.

“It is a very complicated situation for the Federation,” said the director of the Quito League, Esteban Paz., in an analysis of the most recent events he did for a local media.
