The reason why Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland, divorces her husband after 19 years together and a daughter in common

Bad run for the acting Finnish prime minister. Sanna Marin (37) announced through her social networks that she is divorcing her husband, Markus Räikkönen (37), after 19 years together and a daughter in common.

The social democrat, who in 2019 became the youngest prime minister in the world at just 34 years old, asked through Instagram that her privacy be respected in these difficult times for her and her family.

“We have filed for divorce together. We are grateful for the 19 years we have shared and for our beloved daughter. We are still best friends, close to each other and loving parents. We will continue to spend time together as a family and with each other.” Marin wrote on Instagram along with a photo of the two.

The one that is considered the most mediatic politician in the history of Finland met her still husband at the age of 18, when they were both students in the city of Tampere (north of Helsinki). After a long relationship, from which their five-year-old daughter was born, they said ‘yes, I want’ in August 2020 in Kesäranta, the official residence of the head of government, just eight months after Marin was appointed prime minister of the nordic country.

These are difficult times for Sanna, since a little over a month ago she announced her resignation as president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), after not having been able to revalidate the victory in the parliamentary elections last April. She then confessed that her three and a half years as prime minister were “exceptionally difficult and hard times”, both politically and personally, and assured that they tested her capacity for resistance.

A few months ago, politics faced a great controversy on social networks after filtering a video in which he was seen partying and enjoying with friends. Marin was even forced to take a drug test, which came back negative.
