The 'process' of Garbiñe Muguruza

Garbiñe Muguruza has been one of the players who has seen the coronavirus pandemic slow down one of her best moments on the professional circuit after a few seasons full of doubts in which the feelings on the track and the results have not accompanied him.

At the start of the 2020 season and with the help in training of Conchita Martínez (who already helped him conquer Wimbledon in 2017), Muguruza had established himself as one of the great rackets on the circuit this season after going back from 35th place in the WTA rankings. In Shenzhen only Alexandrova deprived him of reaching the final and in Hobart he had to leave before taking on Kudermetova, but both tournaments were a good touchstone before the first major event of the year, the Australian Open.

In Melbourne he again displayed his best version in a tournament in which he was less (he had to overcome a 0-6 against in his debut against Shelby Rogers) to more and winning with great superiority to players like Elina Svitolina, Kiki Bertens or Simona Halep, although he kept the honey on his lips to add his third Grand Slam after falling in the final against Sofia Kenin. Then Muguruza has reached the quarterfinals in Dubai, where Jennifer Brady traced him, and in Doha, where he stood up but could not with the world number one Ashleigh Barty.

Muguruza, who is second in the Porsche Race To Shenzhen with 1760 points, continues with his preparation to try to find his best level in the return of tennis. “Believe in the process of doing hard work every day. Believe in yourself. It is the only way.”, he wrote on his social networks. And Muguruza has not stopped working hard during the confinement in Geneva.

In his home he has alternated physical training sessions while he has taken a series of courses to continue training in other facets and, having in Switzerland a somewhat lighter confinement than Spain, has also allowed go for a run and train on the tennis courts alongside tennis players like Stan Wawrinka. Since last July 1 Muguruza has once again had Conchita Martínez at his side in training with his eyes on the US Open, one of the two Grand Slam that he still lacks in his record and where he hopes to consolidate again in his process of returning to the elite of the WTA circuit.
