The Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy already exceeds 700 registered

MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The 51st edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca Hempel World Cup Series, which takes place from April 1 to 9, has already registered 711 registered crews -of 58 nationalities- with one month to go until the start of the competition, in a competition where the Russian and Belarusian sailors have been excluded following the recommendation of the IOC, World Sailing and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV).

Participation is meeting expectations and they have already formalized their registration in one of the ten participating classes: the women’s ILCA 6, FX, IQ Foil Women and Formula Kite Women; the men’s ILCA 7, 49er, IQ Foil Men and Formula Kite Men; and the mixed 470 and Nacra 17.

After two years of forced hiatus due to the global health situation, the regatta co-organized by the Club Nàutic S’Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and the Real Club Náutico de Palma returns with renewed strength.

“Following the recommendation made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) World Sailing (WS) and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV), Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials have been excluded from the competition, which has reduced the number of enrolled in each of the ten classes but it does not prevent having a large international representation”, indicates the organization of the test.

“The figures are surprising and confirm our most optimistic estimates,” said Javier Zaynoun, regatta director. “Registrations have not yet been closed, and although there are still some teams to finish formalizing the regulatory procedures, we can already speak of an excellent participation,” he added.

“The presence of representatives from almost 60 countries, the premiere of the new classes and the incorporation of the regatta into the Hempel World Cup Series confirm the excellent form of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca”, Zaynoun said.

The number of registrants has almost doubled in the last month. At the moment, 937 crew members and more than 140 trainers have registered. The ILCA 7 class is close to the limit of 180 boats set by the organization and is the most crowded followed by ILCA 6 (97), 49er (68), iQFoil Men (65), Formula Kite Men (63), 470 (60), FX (56), iQFoil Women (50), Nacra 17 (42) and Formula Kite Women (35).
